Important Security Updates for ArcGIS Online
In an effort to provide the strongest security for customers, Esri will be updating software to conform to Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2 across the ArcGIS platform. While some programs, like ArcGIS Pro, already comply with TLS 1.2, other software such as ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Enterprise will require updates to further support connections to ArcGIS Online. This change will be rolled out in February 2019. Stay tuned for more information. To find out how this might affect you, check out the support page!

Updated Look and Functionality in ArcGIS Online
Before the security updates in February, ArcGIS Online will be getting a facelift in form and functionality on December 4th, 2018. In addition to a new UI, ArcGIS Online will now support different user types, allowing for a wider range of capabilities than the previous user levels. Esri is also providing new functionality to support those different user types as well as a streamlined workflow to invite members. Check out the blog post for information on the steps you need to take to prepare for these upcoming functionality changes.

Programming Corner: Material Design in your Applications

Highlighting programming: languages, tidbits, updates and news.

Material Design refers to a set of design principles and choices that invoke the look and feel of physical mediums in the real world, such as paper and ink. Developed by Google in 2014, Material Design is now widely adopted as a modern, minimalist guide for user interface design. When you use a Material Design template it will give your application a contemporary feel and familiarity.

What does this look like?

While your applications will remain fast and reliable, they will take on a fresh new look with Material Design. Slick, responsive input forms along with subtle drop shadows and your branding colors will make your application look as modern and familiar as products developed by the biggest names in tech! Like the rest of you, we here at NPGS are adapting to make ArcGIS Pro our desktop software of choice. ArcGIS Pro seems to have just as many, if not more, shortcut offerings than ArcMap to help with the efficiency of your daily work. There are shortcut keys for many different tasks. Here are some common keyboard shortcuts in ArcGIS Pro that includes a list of additional keyboard shortcuts by task.

Want some additional GIS training? NPGS can help you with that! Visit our Training Page to learn more on how we can help you.
