Carolyn Adams
Carolyn AdamsBusiness Manager, Owner
Ms. Adams holds a Masters degree in Ecology and Natural Resource Science, however early in her career she found herself as an EPA contractor working with software development teams and things seemed to click! Since then she has obtained several certifications in Agile project management and has extensive experience leading, training and coaching software development teams. She is also experienced in Configuration Management for IT projects, Software Quality Testing, Project Management, and Business Analysis. Ms. Adams is a certified Agile ScrumMaster, Product Owner, and Scrum Professional (PMI-ACP). When not running her business, you may find Carolyn planning her next travels or playing board games at one of the many brew pubs in Duluth!
Jesse Adams
Jesse AdamsPrincipal GIS Developer, Owner
Jesse graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography, emphasis in GIS and Cartography. Jesse went on to St.Cloud State to earn his Masters Degree in Geography, emphasis in GIS and Cartography. Jesse has been developing GIS desktop, mobile, and web applications since 2001. His main focus is database development and custom desktop, server, and mobile applications. Jesse is a long time member of the MN LIS/GIS Consortium and served as Secretary Treasurer (2009-2011) on the board. He is also an active member of the Northern MN GIS User Group.
Ethan Borgen
Ethan BorgenLead GIS Developer
Ethan joined North Point in 2017 after graduating from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities campus with a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and a minor in Computer Science. He is interested in combining GIS and programming to create new and innovative solutions. At North Point, Ethan is a lead GIS Developer and besides overseeing development staff, his primary responsibilities include Python programming, managing and analyzing spatial data, mapping projects, and web application development. Ethan enjoys making data more open and accessible when working with clients.
Ross Thorn
Ross ThornGIS Analyst/Developer
Ross graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Geography and Geoscience from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point and completed a master’s degree in Cartography/GIS at the University of Wisconsin – Madison in the summer of 2018. He has experience in interactive and static cartography, UI/UX design, graphic design, web development, Python, and Javascript. When he isn’t working on maps and apps at North Point, you can find Ross performing music around the Twin Ports area or critiquing maps in video games.
Cole Sterling
Cole SterlingWeb Application Developer
Cole has a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Concordia University, Saint Paul. Additionally he has a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management and Leadership, also from Concordia University.
Cole also served in the US Navy as an Aviation Electronics Technician, where he learned the bulk of his hardware troubleshooting skills.
Cole has experience in software development, building all manner of web and desktop applications. Cole also has many years of experience in hardware and software support, as well as several years of experience in server administration.
While not from a Geographical Information Systems background by trade, he has always enjoyed mapping, and creating and studying various different mapping softwares.
Cole’s favorite programming language is C#.
Nels Danielson
Nels DanielsonGIS Web Application Developer Intern
Nels is currently pursuing GIS and Computer Science majors with a Mathematics minor at the University of Minnesota – Duluth. He joined North Point as an intern in the spring of 2019. He enjoys leveraging the intersection of geography software development to create useful assets such as mapping applications and geoprocessing tools. The skills he gets to apply most at North Point include JavaScript, Python, ArcGIS platforms, database management, and RESTful web services. Nels was born and raised in the Duluth area, and was homeschooled from 1st to 10th grade. He also competed on the Duluth East Daredevils high school robotics team, contributing to his passion for all things STEM.
Katie Shampine
Katie ShampineMarketing Coordinator Intern
Katie is a Marketing major at the University of Minnesota – Duluth. She took on the role of Marketing Intern at North Point in the fall of 2019. Katie has a passion for all things marketing, with certifications from Hootsuite and Hubspot as well as experience in website marketing, social media marketing and copywriting. At North Point she manages social media accounts, company newsletters, and website SEO.
